EDO updates its AMOLED roadmap, is developing an 8" AMOLED display

Towards the end of 2014 we reported that China's Everdisplay (EDO) started mass producing 5" 720p AMOLED displays with a capacity of 600,000 panels per month. EDO has since discussed its roadmap several times, and today they updated it again with some new information.

EverDisplay AMOLED roadmap (April 2015)

We already know that EDO is developing new 5.5" and 6" AMOLEDs. While we knew the company is developing a circular display, EDO now reveals they plan to release a 1.4" panel - and not a 1.35" as previously reported - which probably means that EDO is the producer of the 1.4" 400x400 panel used in Huawei's upcoming Watch.

Everdisplay starts AMOLED mass production

EverDisplay Optronics (EDO) was established in October 2012 with an aim to become China's first AMOLED producer. I'm happy to announce that the company has now began to mass produce AMOLED panels. EDO is currently producing 5" 720p (293 PPI) panels for mobile phones. They already achieved a design win with a Chinese handset maker and the first mobile phone that use their panels is expected to launch by the end of 2014.

EverdDisplay is also developing 5.6" Full-HD panels, and these will enter mass production in February 2015. EDO's next display will be a 1.63" 320x320 AMOLED for wearables - expected for Q2 2015.

Everdisplay shows 1.63" AMOLED prototypes, mass production expected by Q2 2015

In July we published an interview with EverDisplay's marketing team, in which they promised AMOLED mass production by the end of 2014. EDO already started shipping 5" 720p samples to potential customers, and the company also developed 5.5" and 6" panels.

A few days ago, during a conference in Shenzhen, Everdisplay gave a presentation in which they announced a new 1.63" 320x320 (277 PPI) AMOLED display panel for wearable applications, and they also showed a prototype panel. EDO told me that the plan is to start mass production of those panels in Q2 2015.

Who will be Universal Display's next key customer?

Three weeks ago, Seeking Alpha published my first article on Universal Display, titled "Universal Display: 20X Jackpot In 2018?" - in which I presented my best-case scenario for the OLED market (and UDC) in 2018.

I think the article was received well, and today SA published my second article - "Universal Display's Second Key Customer Is On Its Way". In this new article I explain why Samsung Display is such an important customer for UDC - and how I expect in that in the coming years UDC will diversity its key customer base as I expect LG Display, Konica Minolta, Everdisplay, BOE, Philips and LG Chem to start mass producing OLEDs soon.

Everdisplay confirms AMOLED mass production in Q4 2014

EverDisplay Optronics was established in October 2012 in Shanghai, China with plans to become China's first AMOLED producer. Everdisplay is constructing a Gen-4.5 AMOLED fab. Those AMOLEDs will be deposited on an LTPS backplane.

The company's marketing team were kind enough to answer a few questions I had. This is a very short interview (they do not seem like the talkative types) - but this is one company that anyone interested in OLEDs should keep an eye on in the near future. They also sent me the photo you see below, showing their latest HD (720p) AMOLED prototypes. From left to right: 5-inch (293 PPI), 5.5-inch (267 PPI), 6-inch (244 PPI).
